On the 27th of August 2012, Luka Modrić began his Real Madrid story. Today marks ten years since the unveiling of a player who has played a key role in the team's multiple successes over recent seasons. The Croatian has won everything there is to win as a madridista: 5 Champions League titles, 4 Club World Cups, 4 European Super Cups, 3 LaLiga titles, 1 Copa del Rey and 4 Spanish Super Cups.

Modrić has made 439 appearances for Real Madrid, his debut coming just two days after his presentation in spectacular fashion, as he lifted the Spanish Super Cup with a win over Barcelona. The Croatian ace's first goal came at the Bernabéu against Zaragoza on LaLiga matchday 10 in 2012/13. Since then, he's gone on to net 32 times, most coming from outside the box.

Awards: Modrić's remarkable career has been reflected in a series of prestigious individual awards. Of course, he won the Ballon d'Or in 2018, as well as FIFA The Best Men's Player in 2018, and UEFA Men's Player of the Year 2017/18. After a spectacular performance with his national team at the World Cup in Russia, he was awarded the competition's Golden Ball.

The Croatian also spoke for the Real Madrid TV and expressed himself as follows: “I remember my first day perfectly… the emotions, the happiness I felt to be coming here. I was just thrilled. It was a day full of emotions because it took a long time to get everything in place in order for me to come here. And when I finally got here I was delighted. It’s difficult to pick a single moment. It was everything, we’re finally here”.

“We were so happy because my closest family members know how much I suffered through these moments with the uncertainty over whether or not it would happen, whether or not they would let me go. So when… so when it happened, when we came out of the airport on the way to Madrid we were all so happy and I was like, finally, it’s really happening. And now, it’s time to enjoy it”.

“When you come to a club like Real Madrid, which is the best club in the world, you know you are coming to a club that wins trophies and you want to win things as well. That’s something you have in common, it goes hand in hand with Real Madrid. But as I always say, all that’s happened is something that I never could have imagined, even in my wildest dreams, you know? If someone said: ‘Look, write that down what you’d like to achieve at Real Madrid. What do you want to win?’ How would you like your time here to go?’, It’d be tough to write down everything that’s happened”.

“So I’m grateful for everything I’ve experienced, absolutely delighted. And today I still have the same desire I had on the first day I arrived here. And I hope I can keep winning things with Real Madrid, but the most important thing is how I’m enjoying myself on a daily basis. Every day I come into training and particularly every game I play for Real Madrid, especially at Bernabeu, all of that is just incredible. Besides the trophies, of course, it’s all the moments you don’t see on so much on the TV like you do with the games, that’s very important to me as well”.
