As ambitious clubs with lots of money like Newcastle United monitor the situation and dream of having making a surprising transfer to bring the Belgian in UK, Thibaut Courtois just completed his 150th appearance for Real Madrid. The goalkeeper, who is in his fourth season at the club and is a candidate for the 2021 Globe Soccer award for goalkeeper of the year, reached the milestone in the victory over Real Sociedad at the Reale Arena.
At the time of his arrival he faced a lot of criticism about his performances and the level of commitment but he smashed all of that criticism with his amazing performances and regained his status as one of the best goalkeepers in the world. It is very common to have him save results in extremely delicate situations and he is someone who invokes confidence and reliability.
"You can say that we have a goalkeeper," Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti said not long ago, smiling. You can, for sure! It was the game against Sevilla when the Italian boss said that, but it could have been any game against any team, anywhere! Every week, every game, good, bad or indifferent, there's at least one astonishing save from Thibaut Courtois. Sometimes they don't really need it; sometimes they really, really do. But either way, it's always there. Courtois is irreplaceable for Real Madrid.
In his time at Real Madrid, he has won one Club World Cup, one League title, one Spanish Super Cup and one Zamora Trophy. Courtois, who made his debut on 1 September 2018 in the 4-1 win over Leganés, has helped the Whites win 93 games during his spell at our club. His 150 appearances span four competitions: LaLiga (115), Champions League (29), Spanish Super Cup (3), Club World Cup (2) and Copa del Rey (1). This season he has made 21 appearances helping the side clinch 16 victories in the process.
