Real Madrid surpassed the 400-official-goal mark with Carlo Ancelotti in the dugout (402) against Real Sociedad at the Santiago Bernabéu. This achievement was accomplished after 158 games under the Italian manager's guidance, whose team averages 2.5 goals per game. Carlo's side has scored in 90% of its games (142) and the breakdown of goals per competition reads as follows: 278 in LaLiga, 79 in the Champions League, 31 in the Copa del Rey, 6 in the Club World Cup, 6 in the Spanish Super Cup and 2 in the European Super Cup.
Ancelotti is the sixth man to do it: Ancelotti becomes the sixth coach in Real Madrid history to reach the figure. Prior to the Italian boss, Miguel Muñoz (1,219), Zidane (592), Del Bosque (490), Mourinho (475), Beenhakker (404) and Molowny (400) had all achieved the milestone.
Trophies: This impressive goalscoring total has seen Real Madrid win 5 titles under Ancelotti’s guidance: 1 Champions League, 1 Copa del Rey, 1 Club World Cup, 1 European Super Cup and the recent Spanish Super Cup.
The Italian Boss appeared in the press room at the Santiago Bernabéu to assess Real Madrid's win over Real Sociedad on LaLiga matchday 27 and reflected on the match and the performance of the team: "We played really well from the first minute. The plan was to press high and try and make it tough for Real Sociedad to play out from the back. It was physically demanding but we did a good job. If we play like that we've got a better chance of getting something on Wednesday".
"It was a big game because we had the chance to extend our lead in LaLiga. We enjoyed ourselves and the team really understood the importance of this game. This game will give us a real boost for Wednesday. This is the intensity we need to show and the kind of game the fans love, it's when they really help us to find our best form. Let's hope we can repeat it", he added.
Importance of the fans: "All madridismo will believe we can turn it around on Wednesday following this game. The players thanked the fans and it was nice to see. Their help will be absolutely vital on Wednesday".
Camavinga: "He’s an option for Wednesday. We’ll see what kind of condition Kroos and Valverde are in over the next few days and then we’ll see who will play on Wednesday. The plan won’t change, whoever plays. He’s got the quality and he doesn’t mind if he’s substituted in the break. He knows how important he is in the squad. He’s young and motivated. He feels better next to Casemiro, than in his position, but he can do a good job in both places. He’s got a great shot on him and bags of energy. He scored a great goal”.
Goals from outside the area: “I encourage them to shoot from distance because teams sit very deep. It gives us an opportunity because we’ve got a lot of quality. Asensio, Kroos, Camavinga, Modrić... They’ve all got great quality and we’ve done well from outside the area this season”.
Casemiro’s absence against PSG: "No player can substitute Casemiro because there’s no other player with his characteristics. Another player with other characteristics will have to play. If I play Kroos, we gain something in terms of playing out from the back, but we’ll lose something else. Whoever plays, we’re going to compete”.
