The Serbian striker, who arrived under Zinedine Zidane, never seemed to convince the French manager that he was the man that could back-up Karim Benzema, let alone supplant him. At the beginning of last season, there was optimism for Luka Jovic. With the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti, it was thought that the Serbian would find more space due to Ancelotti’s experience and skills to fix everything. But that didn’t happen bacuse Jovic was often injured and out of the optimal form so there was nothing to do for the Italian boss.
Real Madrid have scaled back the spending in recent years, tending to bring in one major signing each summer at most. That signing was supposed to be Kylian Mbappe this time round, but as it happened, Aurelien Tchouameni became the chosen one. However perhaps the big relief at Valdebebas will be ensuring the squad is that much leaner next season. Following the departures of Gareth Bale, Isco and Marcelo, Los Blancos have cleared a significant weight off their salary bill.
So, the next salary to be lifted from the books will be Luka Jovic, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano. The Serbian striker has struggled for both minutes and goals ever since arriving in Madrid. Despite some of their good work in the market, Jovic’s €63m fee is looking increasingly like a mistake. Recent reports have linked him with a loan move to Fiorentina in Serie A.
After a previous loan at former club Eintracht Frankfurt, Jovic is set to move to Serie A on loan at Fiorentiona which seems to be the most interested club in him. The idea is to split his €6m salary for the coming season with Fiorentina and it seems like both clubs are ok with this choice. Although less than ideal, if Jovic can regain the form and confidence that got him the move to Madrid, Los Blancos may be able to recoup some of his fee down the line.
A couple of days ago, Fabrizio Romano tweeted: Fiorentina are set to sign Luka Jović from Real Madrid. Deal in place on loan with salary shared between the two clubs [around €6m net], final details, then it’s completed. Jović could arrive in Florence next week to undergo medical tests and sign the contract.
However, there is also a new idea that came up in the last few days. Real Madrid are reportedly pushing to include an obligation to buy clause in Luka Jovic’s loan move to Fiorentina. As detailed by Romano and also TMW, a move seemed to be all but agreed (dry loan for the 24-year-old Serbian forward, sharing his salary across the season), but now things have changed as Madrid is pushing to make his move to Florence permanent.
Real Madrid have reportedly suggested to Fiorentina a loan deal with a €25m obligation to buy clause attached, a figure that would allow them to make a small capital gain on Jovic. With a multi-year deal, the Viola would be able to take advantage of the Growth Decree law, allowing them to save on his salary. Fiorentina have not agreed to this idea yet but both parties are confident that a deal will be reached soon, with or without the clause.
