A return...?

There have been many rumors and speculations in the past few days about a possible transfer that would turn into reality the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid. The word is that Ronaldo wants to return to the Santiago Bernabeu, and Real Madrid, for their part, are ready to open the negotiations.

Ronaldo was signed by Juventus back in 2018 for a major reason: to help them win the Champions League, a trophy which has been missing in Turin since 1996. Juventus however, haven’t gone far in Europe’s most coveted competition since the Portuguese joined them and the latest exit coming this past week at the hands of Porto was very painful to swallow. It was the third time in a row that they fail to beat teams that at least on paper are weaker than them. This time, besides most of his team mates, Ronaldo played a negative role as well, making a poor performance. He faced a lot of criticism and many people in Turin have started thinking that as the time passes he has not much value left to give and considering his expensive requirements maybe it would be better for fhe club to sell him.

Ronaldo is an expensive asset, having cost the club €100m in the initial transfer fee without even mentioning wages. The latest information coming out of Turin is that they’d accept a clamorous price of only €29m to sell the 36 year-old.

Ronaldo earns €64m gross at Juventus, a salary few clubs can match and one that actually represents a fifth of Juventus’ payroll. Zinedine Zidane seemed open to the idea of Ronaldo’s return when asked at a recent press conference. “Cristiano made history here, he’s magnificent,” Zidane said. “You know how much we love him. But he’s a Juve player and we have to respect that.”

However, the Portuguese has not left much room for the media, continuing his daily routine with the passion that always characterizes him. His social media posts do not reveal anything. He tries to concentrate the attention at the next matches claiming that the season is not over and Juventus should focus on what is left to win.

Juventus boss Andrea Pirlo has as well dismissed the claims that Cristiano Ronaldo will leave the club following their Champions League defeat to Porto.

Pirlo has admitted the rumours surrounding Ronaldo's future at the club are 'normal' due to the Portugal captain's standing in the game and said an 'uproar' was being made about him after Sergio Oliveira's 115th-minute goal slipped through the Juve star's legs to send Porto through on away goals.

On the other hand, since it is the third year running that the Bianconeri have been eliminated from the competition early on, former Juve president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has raised the question of why Ronaldo was ever signed.

Juventus could do with freeing up funds and Madrid are believed to be open to a reunion at the end of the campaign since they are ome of the very few clubs that can afford having Cristiano but also have an advantage on the others because Ronaldo knows the club and the Spanish championship very well and would fit immediately.

According to Spanish medias , mostly the AS media, Ronaldo is eager to return to the Bernabeu and has already held unofficial talks with the club.

It seems that there are many informations that back up his return to Real Madrid, but also many others that back up his continuance at Juventus. For the moment nothing is clear, but rumors that link Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo will be a hot topic in this summer's transfer window.
