Real Madrid took a very important victory on Saturday night, defeating Valencia 4-1 at Santiago Bernabeu. This win proves that Real Madrid is still there and is in a great shape. The result and the performance prove this and now the fans can be calm and await for the upcoming matches with a full trust at the team and the coach. Carlo Ancelotti appeared in the media room at the Santiago Bernabéu to discuss Real Madrid's win over Valencia.
Praising the team for the great performance, the coach said: "We played well and are deserved winners. We opened the scoring with a penalty and that helped us. It was a complete performance. We had a few defensive struggles early on, but from the half-hour mark onwards we created a lot of chances and Modrić hit the bar. We deserved to win it".
"We have to take it game by game and see how the players feel in each match. Vinicius Jr. came back and did a great job. It wasn't his dribbling that stood out today but he's got the goals. He scored two poacher's goals. Karim is the same as ever, he's in great shape. We're always going to compete", he added.
Praise for Asensio: “He played really well, much better than he did against Getafe. If he plays well, he gets the full 90 minutes and if he doesn't, he'll play 45 like in Getafe. He played at the same level as Benzema and Vinicius Jr. and we saw the benefit".
When asked if the combination of Benzema, Vini Jr. and Asensio is non-negotiable: “I don't think they’re unchangeable because every game is different. Today they did really well, but I also have to evaluate players like Rodrygo, who‘s always made a significant contribution when he’s played. We’re lucky to have these players who are outstanding and today they did very well".
Penalty on Casemiro: “I can’t answer because I didn’t see the incident well. But it seemed clear from a distance".
Spanish Super Cup: “Barcelona will always be our rivals, a Clásico is no mean feat. We might be favourites in theory but the practice comes out on the pitch. We start from 0-0 and both teams will give it all they have out there. It’s an important competition and the first chance each team has to win something this season. It doesn’t matter whether or not we’re favourites. As far as I know, the whole team has been vaccinated. We have to assess Mariano and Bale. Carvajal is alright and Jović has tested negative and will be able to travel”.
