Ancelotti speaks after the match: “We showed our quality up top...!”

It was a return to the home sweet home for Madridistas as Santiago Bernabeu finally hosted a home match for Real Madrid. But, the one who felt it more was certainly Carlo Ancelotti, who has been away from Santiago Bernabeu for more than 6 years. This happy homecoming was something which he didn't think would be possible just two weeks ago.

The Italian coach spoke to the press after the match against Celta Vigo and besides congratulating the team for the great spirit they showed, he also stressed that the team needs to make big improvements in the defense. The attacking quality of the team was on top but the defensive problems were evident and that may turn into a great problem if they are not analyzed and corrected.

“The team showed a lot of attacking quality, with Benzema, Vinicius, Hazard and Miguel Gutiérrez, who played in an excellent cross for Karim’s goal. Where we weren’t as strong was in our defensive organization and we have to improve in that area. That made things tough for us and then the fans really helped us out. The players didn’t let their confidence be knocked and we delivered a great second-half performance, but we gifted them too much at the start of the game”.

“We showed our quality up top. We have to improve defensively, which let us down a bit. We’re missing some key players in the likes of Alaba and Mendy, but we have to help ourselves out more when we’ve not got the ball. If we can fix things when we’re out of possession that’ll help us to avoid problems in our coming games”, Ancelotti added.

On Vini Jr.: "He's doing very well. He's playing at a very high level at the moment. It's impressive the quality that Vini Jr has got. He's having a good start to the season and helping the team in attack. He has to keep it up now. He's full of confidence at the moment, he's composed keeps a cool head in front of goal".

About the fans at the Bernabéu: "I didn't see Vini Jr.'s celebration, but I know that he went over to the fans. The fans really get behind us. It was a very good atmosphere at the Bernabéu tonight. It's going to be the best stadium in the world, I'm sure of that. I was here 15 days ago and it looked like it would be impossible to play 15 days later. We put in a great performance, with a top atmosphere and in this special stadium. It's going to be the best stadium in the world and the atmosphere was very good in a stadium that for me is always special".
