Real Madrid and Karim Benzema are almost set to announce a contract extension for the French striker. The new contract is said to extend the current contract with one more year. That means that Real Madrid will keep him in the club at least until the summer of 2023, according to a report from a well known media like MARCA.
Karim Benzema’s current deal expires next summer (2022) but Madrid want to keep him around for at least one extra season, something the forward also wanted. “If the President wants to extend my contract, my door is open,” said Benzema when he was asked about his continuance in Madrid before the Champions League match against the Italians of Atalanta.
This year Benzema’s important weight is being felt more and more in Madrid but as the years pass his influence may decrease because of the age and also because of the possible arrivals like Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland. However a legendary player like him, who holds on his shoulders a really great experience, will be always valuable for the team even if he doesn’t play on the starting XI in every match. Besides his experience, there is also his leadership and his ability to work for the team and serve the others while also scoring a great deal of goals, which make him very special and hard to replace.
As of now, Benzema is the undisputed leader of the offensive line, so making sure he stays at the club for two more seasons makes total sense. This year he has been scoring a lot, creating spaces for his teammates, serving every player from the back who reaches the opponent’s zone and sharing experience with the youngsters making them grow.
