When it comes to the players that have always been loyal to the club, the fans are always pleased to hear that they will keep defending the colors that they have always defended. Nacho’s case is exactly about this. The Madridista has been in talks with the club to renew the contract for the past few weeks and the the extension that followed seemed very natural. No complications or problems: Nacho will keep wearing the white shirt!

Nacho will remain at his boyhood club, Real Madrid, where he checked in 20 years ago. In 2001, at the age of 11, he joined the Alevín A side. He then went on to turn out for the infantil, cadete and juvenil sides, before representing Real Madrid C and Castilla, which was the final step before he accomplished every academy player's dream: making his debut for the Real Madrid first team and establishing himself as a member of the squad. He made his bow in the La Liga trip to Valencia in April 2011, before achieving the second part of the dream in the 2012/13 campaign.

Real Madrid have also officially announced that Nacho Fernandez has renewed his contract at the club, with his new deal set to expire in 2023. This is a one-year extension to his previous contract, as Los Blancos wanted to ensure that there were no doubts about his future in the 2021/22 season. On 08/07/2021 the official website of Real Madrid announced: Real Madrid C. F. and Nacho Fernández have reached an agreement to extend the player's contract in a deal that ties him to the club for the next two seasons and until 30 June 2023.

Nacho Fernández signed his contract renewal at Real Madrid City alongside club president Florentino Pérez. The defender penned a deal that ties him to the club until 30 June 2023. After signing his new contract, he was presented with a shirt featuring his name and the number 2023. He will continue living his dream and the fans will keep supporting him!

Since joining the first team, Nacho has enjoyed a richly successful career that has yielded no fewer than 17 pieces of silverware: four Champions League and Club World Cup crowns apiece, three UEFA Super Cups, two LaLiga titles, a Copa del Rey and a trio of Spanish Super Cups; stuff that only a few football players have achieved...

Statistics: Nacho is currently the longest-serving member of the first-team squad. He has racked up 233 appearances for Real Madrid across LaLiga (158), the Champions League (41), the Copa del Rey (30), the Club World Cup (3) and the Spanish Super Cup (1) and plundered 12 goals. Last term, was his 20th season at the club: Nacho made 33 appearances and saw the net once, under Zinedine Zidane, as he made a great impression especially in the latter part of the campaign alongside Eder Militao or Raphael Varane at the centre of the defense. He covered for the injured Sergio Ramos with a series of solid displays at the heart of the defense and with Ramos leaving for Paris Saint-Germain, he is likely to play an important role in the coming season.

Real Madrid through and through: Nacho, who joined Real Madrid's academy 20 years ago, recently celebrated a decade as a first-team player at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, having made his debut in April 2011 under Jose Mourinho in a resounding 6-3 win against Valencia at Mestalla. Since then, Nacho has gone on to play 233 games for Real Madrid, in addition to the 111 he played for Castilla, with whom he won promotion to the Segunda Division in the 2011/12 campaign.

This renewal brings Nacho ever closer to his dream of retiring as a one-club man, a status that no other player in the Real Madrid enjoys. Other players that came through La Fabrica, such as Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez, spent brief spells at other clubs before then returning to Los Merengues. That is not the case for Nacho, who has only ever worn Real Madrid's shirt in the 10 years since he made his first-team debut.

Nacho has also made a total of 22 caps for Spain, but his absence from La Roja's squad for Euro 2020 caused many to scratch their heads due to his excellent form in the second half of the 2020/21 season. The adaptable defender can play in central defense and at left or right full back, making him a very useful player, but unfortunately it was not meant for him to give his contribution to the Euro 2020 Tournament. However, even if Spain did not make use of his versatility, Real Madrid will surely evaluate him and give him the place he deserves.
