Fabio Capello was full of praise for his compatriot Carlo Ancelotti and explained the reasons why he believes that the Real Madrid boss in the best coach worldwide. Don Fabio is quite a huge name in football and even more when it comes to Italian football. The former coach, whose last adventure was at Chinese side Jiangsu Suning, which he left in 2018, was one of the most important figures in the Serie A, especially in the 1990s and 1st half of of 00s. Five-time Serie A winner (four with Milan and one with AS Roma), plus two that were revoked with Juventus, two league titles with Real Madrid ten years apart and a Champions League with Milan.
Capello offered his vision of the state of Italian football on the second day of the Marca Sports Weekend 2023 and talked especially about his a sort-of successor Carlo Ancelotti, who - just like Capello worked at Milan, Juve and Real Madrid with lots of success. Ancelotti returned to Real Madrid last year and led them all the way to LaLiga Santander and Champions League glory.
The former coach said: "He is the best. When you win in Spain, in Italy, in England, in France it's because you know. Numbers are numbers. Real Madrid are not an easy team [to coach], you have to know things. The players, when you talk to them, understand perfectly if you know or don't know. The quality he has to understand the moment. Last year after winning La Liga, there was talk about why they went behind and played on the counter. It's about the tactics”.
Ancelotti has been at the receiving end of criticism due to Real Madrid's struggles in the league, but Capello understands that the pressure is high for any Los Blancos coach. He noted: "When you sign for Real Madrid you know that this exists, if you don't win, you leave. I won and they kicked me out. The first time was different. My story began with Berlusconi. After the first time I was at Real Madrid he called me and said 'Fabio, please, you have to go back to AC Milan'. I had three years left. I spoke to [the then-Real Madrid president Lorenzo Sanz, I told him 'I love this man very much'. I returned and a year later I was sacked by AC Milan”.
Ancelotti has been linked with the Brazil job after they parted ways with Tite following the 2022 World Cup. Capello believes that the Italian coach could help Selecao achieve their goals: "Carlo has experience, he knows the languages and the language of football, which are two important things. When you go to coach in another country you have to understand many things: how people want to play football, how I can do things, know the languages... and I think Carlo can do it all very well”.
He added: "Coaching Real Madrid it's one thing, Barcelona another thing, Valencia another thing, Sevilla another thing. The same in Italy, as AC Milan, Juventus, Inter is one thing and then you go to Roma and it's another. For me, Carlo can coach anywhere in the world”.
