Hazard’s time at Real Madrid has certainly not been as everyone wished, incuding the Belgian himself. Since the beginning of the week all of the clubs have stopped their activity to give some time to the international break. Hazard has been also called by his national team Belgium and has been available to speak to the journalists. He spoke about his time at Real Madrid and expressed his will to change things for better.
The 30-year-old completed a move to Real worth €150M in 2019, leaving Chelsea after helping the English club secure victory in the Europa League with a comprehensive 4-1 win over Arsenal. But having established himself as a Blues legend after a trophy laden seven-year spell in west London, Hazard's stint in Madrid has thus far been an unmitigated disaster.
Countless injuries have sidelined the Belgian ever since he arrived in the Spanish capital, restricting him to just 43 appearances in all competitions. Indeed, Hazard has only scored five goals for Real - four of those in La Liga - and he's been labeled in the media as one of the worst signings of modern times, in terms of value for money at least.
However, speaking while on international duty with Belgium, Hazard, is still optimistic that he can put his woes behind him, and says that he wants to pay Real Madrid back over the course of his remaining contract for the massive investment they made in him. The former Chelsea is now nearly back to full fitness and has confirmed that he owes Los Merengues for everything they did to have his services.
Injuries have ravaged Hazard's career in the Spanish capital to this point, with the forward barely being able to string together five matches since putting pen to paper with the club. Yet, a pre-season with Antonio Pintus is said to have worked wonders for the Belgian's physical condition and he is now ready to contribute, especially with Real Madrid having failed to sign Kylian Mbappe.
"Real Madrid spent a lot of money on me, I want to pay them back," Hazard admitted in an interview with HLN. I signed for five years, the first two haven't been good but I have three more to prove my worth. I hope it works, I hope to get up one morning and find myself in perfect condition for training, I'm waiting for the moment when I can prove my worth".
"People think that I'm always injured, that's the reality, but if you review my career there isn't a player who has played as many games as I have over 10 years. I do what I have to do, I work daily with the physios and we have done a great job since the beginning of the season. At the moment it is going well, but I'm not 100 percent just yet”, the Belgian added.
As he urged people not to judge so quickly and to try to understand more about the difficulties that the injuries bring he continued: “Sometimes it is difficult to be injured, you want to play and you're trying to convince the club you're ready, but you still have that pain. Those are the worst moments, sometimes it's difficult to understand. You do everything you need to do and not even that helps."
On another interview, after the 5-2 win over Estonia where he assisted in one of the goals, Eden Hazard pointed out how important is for a player to have as much playing time as possible and how happy that makes him. Since his period at Real has been full of injuries and performances limited by them, there has often been a lot of criticism at him.
In the post-match interview he said: "It's not true that I'm unhappy at Real Madrid, I feel very happy and you know that a player is always happy when they're playing. I haven't played much, nor have I scored, but that doesn't influence the love I have for the club. I'm very happy in the city of Madrid. The situation has been made complicated by COVID and injuries, but I'm happy”.
"People can think what they want, but I'm happy in Madrid. I know I can do good things there and that's it. When I score goals, when I smile again, everyone will say that I'm happy again, but I'm already happy”.
In the match against Czech Republic Eden Hazard proved himself to be in a very good shape. He played for 73 minutes and concluded the match scoring one goal. His numbers were really great as he won 100% of the ground duels, had 63 touches, 7 chances created, 100% take-on success and 3 fouls won.
