Real Madrid have expressed their sincere gratitude to the departing Isco Alarcon. Isco himself revealed shortly after the UCL final, on 30 May, 2022, that he was departing the club on a free transfer after nine years. His departure comes at the same time with that of Bale. They both arrived in 2013 and left a great mark.

Isco arrived from Malaga in 2013 and helped Madrid win 19 trophies in his nine years in the Spanish capital. He can count five Champions League titles, three league crowns, one Copa del Rey and four FIFA Club World Cup triumphs among his honours. A much-feted signing on arrival, Isco’s initial years at Madrid were highly successful. The Spanish international featured in a side who won three Champions League trophies between 2013 and 2018. However, he was less integral in recent seasons.

He had crucial roles in many points of his spell at Real Madrid, helping seal some of the club’s numerous successes. Even why his performances have been decreasing in numbers, Isco is still a quality player with a lot to offer to a team lacking creativity through the midfield. Real Madrid showed their affection with an official update to the club’s official websites and social media accounts about his departure. Los Blancos expressed as follows:

Official Announcement, Isco:

Real Madrid would like to express its sincere gratitude and affection to Francisco Alarcón ('Isco'), who during these nine years he has spent wearing our shirt and defending our crest has become a legend of our club.

He joined Real Madrid when he was just 21 years old and during this spell at the club he has been part of an era that will remain in the memory of all madridistas and football fans. Isco has lifted 19 trophies in a glittering career with our team: five European Cups, four Club World Cups, three UEFA Super Cups, three LaLiga titles, one Copa del Rey and three Spanish Super Cups. He was also named Best Player of the 2017 European Super Cup Final.

His football made a lasting impression on all the madridistas who have accompanied him on this successful journey with so many unforgettable moments.

Real Madrid is and always will be his home, and the club wishes him and all his family the best of luck for the future.

The player also expressed his gratitude and love. Isco Alarcon wrote on his social media with a great dose of humor:

“When I was in Malaga and I knew I had to go.

I got engaged to another team. But Real Madrid knocked on my door and Real Madrid cannot and should not be told no, although there are always exceptions 🐢😂

I remember telling my people, f*** it, Madrid hasn't won the Champions League for many years and I have a feeling that is about to change and (then) LA DÉCIMA arrived, everything that comes after is already history.

9 years later my time at the club that has made it possible for me to fulfill all the dreams I had when I was little comes to an end.

Apart from fulfilling dreams, winning more titles than I had imagined, playing with the greatest, meeting incredible people: I HAVE HAD A FUCKING TIME AND THEY CAN TAKE MY BAILAO OUT OF ME.

Because without a doubt I keep the good and I hope you do too!!

I want to thank my teammates, coaches, coaching staff, physios, kit men, workers at Valdebebas and Santiago Bernabeu for all the work, love and support that everyone needs and that I have never lacked.

I also want to thank the fans who welcomed me in an incredible way from day one and who accompany this team in every corner of the world!

By the way, yesterday I was telling a friend that he didn't understand why they were holding the Cibeles party if number 15 is on its way hahahaha 😂😂

Goodbye and Hala Madrid!”

The Future

Plenty of teams are interested in him, but the main sticking point seems to be whether they can afford him. According to Sport, the former Malaga player is set on receiving something in the range of the €7m he was getting at Real Madrid each year.

As it stands though, neither of Real Betis nor Sevilla will be able to meet those demands. The two Seville sides have been most closely linked with Isco in La Liga, which is where he wants to be. Valencia have also been linked, yet it seems more likely he would be able to receive such a salary abroad, possibly at Roma.

The “AS” media outlet explained that Isco is talking to the Italian team, as his agent Jorge Mendes is the same as that of coach Jose Mourinho, which would make the operation a little easier. Earlier, in the previous week, SportItalia took this story a step further, suggesting that Isco's representatives have already contacted Pinto, reportedly offering his services to the Giallorossi.

The problem Isco faces is that at 30 years of age and having been without regular football for several seasons, clubs may be reluctant to take a financial risk on him. His talent has never been in doubt, but there is little evidence from recent years that he can be a transformative signing. Isco is not closing the doors to anyone and is open to leaving Spain if the case arises, although his main idea is not to have to move far away, so he intends to stay in LaLiga.
