There is a major injury headache for Carlo Ancelotti and Real Madrid, with Toni Kroos suffering a muscular issue (hamstring injury). AS did report that the coaching staff were optimistic about his chances of playing in the Champions League next week, based on the player’s self-diagnosis. The German missed the training session on Thursday and has undergone further tests, but the situation doesn't look very promising.
This is according to Cadena Cope, who explains that Kroos is certainly ruled out against Real Sociedad on Saturday night, while he is also a doubt for the Paris Saint-Germain return leg at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, March 9.
If the German isn't able to play against the Ligue 1 leaders, that is an especially significant blow for Los Blancos because Casemiro and Mendy are also suspended for that game. Ancelotti had already suggested that Kroos could play the Casemiro role, with Fede Valverde and Luka Modric flanking him, but now the Italian might have to look for alternative solutions, such as Eduardo Camavinga. His physicality could help against PSG, but he doesn’t have the experience for such important games yet!
The german midfielder has been a near constant starter in 2021/22, ever since he started the season late after a summer injury. He has managed to play 29 games across all competitions and has missed just one game - the 3-0 win over Alaves - since returning against Sheriff Tiraspol in the second Champions League game of the campaign.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti has come under criticism from fans and media alike for his lack of squad rotation this season. Injuries to Karim Benzema have left Los Blancos looking short in front of goal lately. As for Kroos, he has played every match save one since he returned from injury at the start of October. Real Madrid need to overcome the 1-0 loss they earned at the Parc des Princes, and doing so without Mendy, Casemiro and Kroos would be nothing short of spectacular.
