Luka Jovic’s numbers at Real Madrid: a great potential turned in one of the worst signings…

Luka Jovic left Real Madrid to join Fiorentina. The Serbian striker signed his new contract on Friday. The clubs made their official statements as the Serbian completed his medical tests in Florence. He joined his teammates for the first time as the team trained on Saturday for the new season’s preparations.

Jovic is undoubtedly one of the worst signings in Real Madrid's history in terms of cost and performance. The 63 million euros that Real Madrid paid Eintracht Frankfurt to sign him make Jovic the eighth most expensive signing in the club's history.

Real Madrid had never paid such an amount for a striker before, with the second most expensive signing being Ronaldo Nazario, who moved from Inter for 45m euros, and the third most expensive being Benzema, who joined from Lyon for 35m euros.

A list of Real Madrid's most expensive strikers:

Jovic (Eintracht) 63 million euros

Ronaldo Nazario (Inter) 45 million euros

Benzema (Lyon) 35 million euros

Nicolas Anelka (Arsenal) 35 million euros

Alvaro Morata (Juventus) 30 million euros

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Ajax) 27 million euros

Mariano Diaz (Lyon) 21.5 million euros

Ruud van Nistelrooy (Manchester United) 15 million euros

Gonzalo Higuain (River Plate) 12 million euros

Michael Owen (Liverpool) 12 million euros

Jovic leaves Real Madrid, for whom he has scored just three goals in 51 appearances. In Real Madrid's top ten of the most expensive signings, the Serbian striker is ahead of Kaka (67 million euros) and Hazard (115m) in terms of cost-performance ratio.

Kaka arrived the same season as Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo. He scored 29 goals and recorded 39 assists in 120 games, but it is true that he was never the Kaka that impressed at AC Milan due to his injury issues. Something similar is happening with Hazard, who has suffered from injuries following his move to Real Madrid, whose most expensive signing of all-time has six goals in 66 games.

Unlike Jovic, Hazard is convinced that this coming year he can improve his performances after undergoing surgery and removing the plate from his ankle that has given him so many problems at Real Madrid.

Jovic, for his part, has not had any serious injury problems at Real Madrid. Everything points to a problem of adaptation. The Serbian, who arrived after scoring 40 goals in 93 games in the Bundesliga, didn't manage to live up to expectations. His father said a few days ago that this deal will prove who was right. However, working with two great coaches like Zinedine Zidane, then Carlo Ancelotti was maybe the golden chance that he didn’t really use in his benefit.

With so much money spent on him, Jovic is also part of the Real Madrid's Top 10 most expensive transfers:

Eden Hazard (2019) Chelsea 115 million euros

Gareth Bale (2013) Tottenham Hotspur 101 million euros

Cristiano Ronaldo (2009) Manchester United 96 million euros

Aurelien Tchouameni (2022) Monaco 80 million euros

Zinedine Zidane (2001) Juventus 77.5 million euros

James Rodriguez (2014) Monaco 75 million euros

Kaka (2009) AC Milan 67 million euros

Luka Jovic (2019) Eintracht Frankfurt 63 million euros

Luis Figo (2000) Barcelona 62 million euros

Eder Militao (2019) Porto 50 million euros
