Luka Modrić was amongst the madridistas to speak to the media in the pre-match press conference ahead of the UEFA Super Cup. The midfielder offered his thoughts ahead of the clash at Helsinki’s Olympic Stadium: “It was a tough but special journey to win the Champions League. We're really excited and raring to win the UEFA Super Cup. It's the first trophy of the season and we want to win it. We’ll be giving our all and I hope that that shows out on the pitch”.

He continued: “To perform at this level, you've got to work hard and really devote yourself to the profession, both on and off the field, which is exactly what we're doing. We've got a very good squad and are ready to go and have a good season. We’ll be giving our all, just as we do every season. Every competition is important for us. We're here to win again and we hope to get the season off to the best possible start tomorrow night."

Managing game time ahead of the World Cup: “Not at all. Age is not an issue. The important thing is what you do out on the pitch. We shouldn't be looking at age. I haven't spoken to Ancelotti about managing my game time. He knows that I like to play and that I feel good when I play and I'm available to the team to give my all. The fact that the World Cup takes place halfway through the season doesn't change anything. I have to be ready, train well and be available.”

On Benzema: “I remember that when I joined the club and started to train and play with him, I realised that he's a unique and different sort of player. He's an impressive talent and I'm delighted that people are now recognising the fact. If I had to single one thing out, it’d be his goals, which is an area of the game where I'm lacking“.
