Lately, there have been many voices that put the idea of Marcelo leaving Real Madrid. Maybe they took life from the events of legends Zidane and Ramos leaving or from the intention of the club to make some renovations on the team. Or maybe they were the outcome of the high interest that Juventus and not only have had on Marcelo in the latest years. However, Fabrizio Romano, one of the most famous football journalists specialized in market transfers says the opposite.
Fabrizio Romano confirms Marcelo will not be departing the club in the foreseeable future. Marcelo is reportedly set to stay with Real Madrid ahead of next season, according to a tweet from Fabrizio Romano. His twitter wrote: Real Madrid have never been intentioned to sell Marcelo. He’s staying and he’s considered a key player for Ancelotti’s team, the board never had any doubt. Marcelo is gonna be the captain next season and he’s happy to stay.
Romano says that Real Madrid and returning manager Carlo Ancelotti highly regard Marcelo and have no intention of letting him leave the club this summer. With Sergio Ramos already gone, the club appears to not be content with letting another team leader and key figure depart. There was talk last week about both Karim Benzema and Marcelo being the two captains next season based on the club’s seniority policy. Here, at least, Romano is confirming Marcelo will indeed be at least one of the new captains of Los Blancos next season.
There has been much concern about Marcelo’s performances when he does start showing that the 33-year-old is starting to hit his decline. However, the most value is probably not being placed on his current abilities on the pitch. There’s no doubting the leadership and experience that he brings to this team and he is clearly highly valuable within the Real Madrid locker room.
The Brazilian has spent 14 years with the Galacticos since joining in 2007, and has winning a number of trophies along the way, and will go down amongst the greatest left-backs in history. Juventus were believed to be courting his signature this summer, with just one year remaining on his contract, and with him having shared the first-team role with Ferland Mendy this term, but Florentino Perez claims that he will now be staying with the club this term, and that he will take over as club captain following Sergio Ramos’s departure.
The Brazilian was sparingly used last campaign under Zinedine Zidane, leading to rumours he might be one of the players leaving. The club president has however insisted the full-back will remain and worker and the returning Carlo Ancelotti. Florentino Perez confirmed as reported: Marcelo will stay and he’ll be the captain. Marcelo will be our captain next season. It's difficult to find another LB like Marcelo. Him and Roberto Carlos have been the best in the history.
