As everything is getting ready for the 2nd Matchday of the Champions League, in the Group F Real Madrid will host RB Leipzig at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium (Wednesday, September 14, at 21:00 CEST). It will be the 1st UCL game and the 3rd overall that Real Madrid will play home as the reconstruction of the stadium is entering its final stages. The teams come in this game with different struggles as Real Madrid has had a perfect start of the season winning all games, while Leipzig has started the new season with many ups and downs.

Carlo Ancelotti's side grabbed a 4-1 comeback win on home soil against Real Mallorca on Sunday and they remain top of the LaLiga Santander table with 15 points, having managed 5 wins from 5 games. The team’s season has been perfect until now clinching 7 wins from 7 games in all competitions, with a total of 20 goals scored and 5 conceded and another silverware on their trophy room (UEFA Super Cup).

On the other hand, Marco Rose’s side comes from a poor start of the season with only 8 points after 6 games in Bundesliga, a lost DFB Super Cup to Bayern before the Bundesliga start and a shocking 1-4 defeat in their home at the hands of Shakhtar Donetsk in the 1st matchday of Champions League. However they seem to have put their spirit up with the latest victory of 3-0 over Dortmund on Saturday.

At the press conference, there were revealed the players called for this game. Ancelotti named his squad as follows:

Goalkeepers: Courtois, Lunin and Luis López.

Defenders: Carvajal, Alaba, Vallejo, Nacho, Odriozola, Rüdiger and F. Mendy.

Midfielders: Kroos, Modrić, Camavinga, Valverde, Tchouameni and D. Ceballos.

Delanteros: Hazard, Asensio, Vini Jr., Rodrygo and Mariano.

Besides the already known absences of Benzema and Militao, in the White House have emerged the worries about Lucas Vasquez who was injured and eventually substituted in the game vs Mallorca. As it is already certain that he will miss this game, the club made an official statement, saying: “Following tests carried out on our player Lucas Vázquez by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the gracilis muscle of the right thigh. His recovery will continue to be assessed”. Meanwhile, on the other camp, Dani Olmo and Lukas Klostermann are both out injured, with Konrad Laimer being also ruled out with an ankle injury.

Predicted Real Madrid XI (4-3-3): Courtois; Carvajal, Rudiger, Alaba, Mendy; Modric, Tchouameni, Kroos; Valverde, Rodrygo, Vinicius.

Predicted RB Leipzig XI (4-2-3-1): Gulacsi; Simakan, Orban, Diallo, Raum; Laimer, Schlager; Nkunku, Forsberg, Szoboszlai; Werner.

As for the referee, Maurizio Mariani will be the head of the judges for Real Madrid's match against Leipzig. Born in Rome, he decided to undertake an arbitration career at the age of 16, when he enrolled in the referees’ course to take the exam. With 124 matches in Serie A and 15 matches in European competitions, everything is ready for him to referee the 1st game in Champions League group stage.
