Luka Modrić was interviewed by the official media of Real Madrid on the occasion of his 37th birthday. The Croatian midfielder analysed his side’s fine start to the season and spoke about his rich vein of form for Realmadrid TV. The Croatian was born in Zadar (Croatia) on 9 September 1985 and since checking in at Real Madrid in the 2012/13 season he has captured a total of 21 pieces of silverware: five Champions Leagues, four Club World Cups, four UEFA Super Cups, three LaLiga titles, a Copa del Rey and four Spanish Super Cups.

His impressive performances in a Real Madrid shirt and for the Croatian national team have seen him land some of the most prestigious individual prizes in the game in recent years. The Croatian picked up the Ballon d'Or and the FIFA The Best Player Award, both in 2018. Modrić played a pivotal role as the team secured the Decimocuarta and is amongst the candidates to win the Ballón d'Or. He has chalked up 442 appearances and hit 33 in madridista colours.

The magician expressed himself in the following terms: “I always get asked what my secret is, but I don’t know what to tell you. It’s something natural. I live because of and for football almost 24 hours a day. I think that’s really important. I love what I do and I’m enjoying my profession to the full, you never know how long you can last at this level and at this club, which demands so much. I just try to enjoy the training sessions and the games. All this helps to be in good shape as you get older”.

About his talent: "I’m really grateful because God gave me a talent, but you still have to work hard and commit yourself fully to what you do, to your profession. Talent without hard work doesn’t mean much. You have to work hard to be successful in your profession and do it well”.

On his day-to-day routine: "Well, today I arrived an hour and a quarter early and I usually have breakfast here. I work with the physios and then I train. After, depending on how I feel, I stay to do other work with the physios. Then I go home to spend time with my family and the kids. I pick them up from school and that’s what I do most days”.

On the centre of the midfield: “We’ve started really well this year and we have a strong team. In midfield, we lost an important player in Casemiro, but we’ve got a lot of other good players to replace him and do a good job. Tchouameni has adapted really well. This is Camavinga’s second year and he had a great first year. Kroos has been here for a long time. Valverde is also doing really well in any position. Ceballos is helping the team a lot. We’re well equipped in this position.”

The Croatian also thanked all of those who wished him a happy birthday with a nice post on his social media profiles, writing in three languages: “Cumpliendo años con la mejor compañía. Muchas gracias a todos por las felicitaciones. Thank you very much for the messages!! Hvala svima na lijepim zeljama!” ❤
