The MLS is following and watching Eden Hazard and wants him to join as soon as possible. Montreal, a club that came to the North American competition in 2010 and is owned by Joey Saputo, a Canadian, also president of Bologna in Serie A, is looking to give a boost to a team that transits through the North American championship with more sorrow than glory. It is not one of the dominant franchises in MLS. The idea is that the former Chelsea man would be their franchise player, but Hazard has so far ignored them.
For the time being, the call has remained there. The interest has not gone any further. The Belgian, despite having very little playing time, does not want to leave the Santiago Bernabeu until his contract is finished. The forward feels comfort in Madrid and a move seems quite unlikely. For the moment nothing has made him change his mind. Hazard has more than a year left on his contract with Real Madrid and there is nothing to suggest that the Belgian will open the exit door, which the club has greased. The Belgian wants to continue one more year at Real Madrid in search of more opportunities.
In recent weeks, the Belgian has been on the pitch, demonstrating why he is now at the bottom of the list for the club. Without going any further, he had an hour against Getafe without showing anything unfortunately. This season so far, he has made 10 appearances, scoring once and providing two assists for his teammates, numbers that are clearly delusional. Real Madrid on the other hand look desperate to see him move on, be it on loan or permanently.
Hazard arrived at Real Madrid in 2019 and did so as a franchise player, world reference and as a replacement (a year later) for Cristiano Ronaldo in that of becoming the new idol. Almost four years later the reality is that he has played 76 games, with seven goals and nine assists, being most of the time injured, out of form and eventually benched. Hazard is Madrid’s highest earner, thought to be on around €14m per year and yet is their last-choice forward these days. Given the size of his wages, it looks tricky for Madrid to carry out the Belgian’s wish to stay until the end of the contract.
Hazard was one of the best in the game for most of the previous decade, but currently is a reminder of a substantial and failed operation for Los Blancos. A year ago he publicly promised to make amends and last November he went further by saying that if Real Madrid told him he had to leave, he would leave. A few days ago he confessed that he wants to fulfill the remainder of his contract and that he does not remember what he said about his possible departure.
Real Madrid officials expect a change in the Belgian's approach after seeing what's ahead of him and the calls he has been receiving lately from Montreal and Riyadh. For the moment, he has not shown any signs of looking for a way out. In Valdebebas they maintain that the departure of the Belgian could mean the arrival of an offensive player, preferably a wide player, the Frenchman Moussa Diaby is the idea, and the Belgian would free up 30 million euros in salary and that money could be used in the signing of the Bayer Leverkusen player.
