Nacho Fernández spoke to the club's official channels after the squad’s first training session of the pre-season. The defender discussed the team’s return to action and pointed out the great importance of these starting sessions as they help the players get back in their form and to set the basis of a good physical condition that will allow them to cope with the heavy load of a long and dense season.
Fernandez was amongst the group of players returning to action at Valdebebas as Los Blancos kicked off their pre-season schedule in Madrid. The 2021/22 campaign saw a return to dominance for the club as Carlo Ancelotti masterminded a Spanish and European double at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu with Nacho being a very important part of the success. He started with a video selfie saying: “Hello Madridistas. How are you doing? We are here back to work and very excited for the season ahead. The hard work starts now! We are looking forward to having you by our side again supporting us. Hala Madrid!”
Then the he said for the press: “You have to come back with desire and a lot of strength because these are tough days. There’s a lot of fitness and tactical work, which is what you need to work on in pre-season. What you put in now will help you go all the way to the end. These days are really important to make sure your legs and your head are prepared, because the seasons are really demanding and you have to be at your best”.
Disconnection: “We achieved incredible things last season and we completed our objectives. We try to disconnect and recharge our batteries for what could be an even more exciting season than the previous one. We’re well up for it”.
Motivation: “There’s more and more every season. I’ve been here my whole life, this is where I was taught. This is my home and I’m really happy, because I keep progressing to the next stage. I’m becoming a veteran, but I’m still as motivated as ever”.
Demand: “The demand at this club is high every year. We’re the ones who demand more and more because last season we won a lot of important trophies for this club. We go into the new season with a lot of desire to achieve the same or even more. The objective is to win all the possible trophies and this is the mentality that we are taught from the day we join the club”.
