Another successful week for Los Blancos. This time the victim was Celta Vigo. The game started well for Real Madrid who looked very clear and determined and controlled the ball more. Two goals in the first 30 minutes by the usual Benzema gave the impression that the match would be easy. But it was not that simple.
After the second goal, Real Madrid got a bit sleepy and Celta started to collect the forces and increased the pressure. They tried to steal the ball many times and to create chances by using counter attacks. They were dangerous and their goal came from a set piece. The foul was committed by Kroos exactly because the team was caught in a counter attack. Then, it was the bad marking in the area that provided Celta the chance to score and they didn't miss that chance. From that point Real Madrid tried to keep a constant rhythm and tried to attack carefully so there wouldn't be any spaces in the back for the opponent.
Going at the dressing room in the half time with an advantage was very beneficial for Real Madrid. This way, in the second half the pressure and the time would eventually be against Celta.
The second half started with Celta trying to restart with the rhythm they tried so hard to find in the first half. Real seemed solid as well and didn't set back to defend. That would certainly be a huge mistake because losing the ball control in a great rate would give Celta great opportunities to equalize. Seeing their hard work to get back into the game gave the impression that thay would eventually score if given opportunities to control the game.
Each of the time teiwd to do their job and the game was never closed. The second half was characterized by more chances but also by many fouls. Each of the teams tried to stop the opponent and lower their pace in many ways. However as Celta hurried to find the second goal, Real started to feel the fatigue. Zidane put Asensio on the field to substitute Kroos. It was certainly a tactical sub. He did that because Toni's rhythm and energy were decreasing and also because he risked a second yellow card. Modric stayed because he can be more calm and is more experienced. But instead of putting another midfielder (for example Isco) he decided to put Asensio because the team needed a more dynamic player and also needed to restart trying to score. Trying to attack carefully and using counter attacks by breaking the attacks of the opponent would give the new entry Asensio, a fast player with good technical skills, new opportunities to score and close the game.
Unfortunately that didn't happen until the last minute of the added time and Real had to face a few difficulties by a good team like Celta which has great attacking ways. They also hit the post in a free kick, and event which would have had a great influence on the game. Real were a bit lucky, but also really good. The players did as much as they could and they were rewarded with three points.
This is a very good moment for the team and many positive results are coming. Real Madrid has found a stable state and is trying to get even better. With the return of the missing players, hopefully things will get nicer. The only thing they have to do is to continue working quietly and hard!
Hala Madrid!
