Take Kubo joined Real Sociedad officially. The Japan international moved to La Real for €7m, with Real Madrid holding a 50% sell-on clause. Kubo has penned terms until 2027. The forward extended his Spanish adventure, on which he first embarked in 2019 when he joined Real Madrid on a transfer from FC Tokyo. Although he did not make a single appearance with the Merengues, Kubo played for Mallorca, Villarreal and Getafe on loan before signing for the San Sebastian team that ended last season in the sixth place.
Real Madrid also made an official statement about his move, writing: “Real Madrid C. F. and Real Sociedad reach an agreement over the transfer of Take Kubo. Our club wishes to thank the player for his hard work and dedication during his time at Real Madrid. Real Madrid wish the player and his family all the best in this new chapter”.
Madrid will pay close attention to Kubo’s performances to see if they should bring him back from Real Sociedad based also on the needs of the club. On the other hand, fans should be patient with him as he might not need some time to adapt and may not be included in the starting eleven in the very beginning of the season.
“Hey everyone, I am thrilled to be able to be here, getting my new stage started,” the 21-year-old, clad in the Real Sociedad shirt, said in a video posted on the club’s Twitter account. Real Sociedad on Monday created a new official Twitter account in Japanese, which joins those it already has in Spanish, Basque, French and English. Through the new account, the LaLiga club on Tuesday shared a video presenting Kubo as “our new Txuri Urdin warrior”, along with images of a Japanese fighter with a covered face and armed with a katana.
Kubo talked to the media during his first press conference as a txuriurdin and explained why the thinks this is a good move for him. He said: “First, I think it's the most appropriate team for my style as a footballer, and second because of the interest they put in me, I think they were the first. When I finished with the national team, they already told me that Real had been interested in me. Playing in a strong team and with very good players, I think you can't ask for more”.
"Looking from the outside, I have seen a very young team, with a lot of ambition and desire, and I am very happy to be one more here. Last year as a Japanese I saw two Japanese win the Europa League and, since we have the opportunity to try, why not? 21 years old is no longer young, seeing that 16 or 17-year-old players come out, but I play football because I like it, and I don't watch this about the pressure from the newspapers or the networks. I like watching football games more than newspapers", the youngster added.
