Last night Real Madrid showed what a nice team they are when they work together and put their international experience on the use.
Last night the match started with a relatively high rhythm with both teams expressing their intentions to score. That rhythm continued during thr whole match and both tried to make a relatively open game, especially Atalanta. They had nothing to lose and decided to slowly go all out.
Atalanta is such a great and sympathetic team with lots if young players who are most of the time in great physical form. That makes it hard to play against them. They are characterized by such enthusiastic and "nonchalant"(in a positive way) attitude and never surrender. They could concede many goals and still play the game like it was 0 - 0. That's why you can't be sure about anything when you play against them. But their main problem is the lack of experience. On the other hand Real Madrid is one of the most experienced teams in the world, but that experience never shows up if the team is in a bad form. Last night, Real was the opposite of that. The team chose not to play only in defence to protect the advantage from the 1st leg, but also didn't hurry up and concentrated in two main points: using counter attacks and made use of the opponent's mistakes. It was exactly the the mistake of Atalanta's defender which was used efficiently by Modric who then served Benzema and Real closed the 1st half with a very important advantage.
The second half put more pressure on Atalanta but their style made them (as always) "forget" everything and just play! So, Real had to continue being careful. One conceded goal would open the game more and Atalanta loves open games. But the experience and the determination of the Zidane's squad was again victorious. The team continued using counter attacks and tried to lower the rhythm and control the ball whenever there was a chance and the result was great. It was again a mistake of Atalanta and a counter atfack from Real that brought a penalty which was transformed into a goal by the captain Ramos. 2 - 0 and everything started to feel easier. After that Ramos left his place to Militao and Vinicius left his place to Rodrygo, both of them were head to head subs which served to give a refresh to the team and also to give Ramos and Vinicius a rest. But a team that doesn't surrender will always say its word. Varane caused a foul near the box and a great free kick by Muriel made it 2 - 1. The initial line up needed a little edit. Asensio takes the place of Valverde in a tactical substition and Real keeped pressing whenever the chance came so the counter attack strategy keeped working. This brought the third goal which was scored exactly by Asensio. That was the moment that concluded the match.
A nice appearance by the team and now Real will wait to know the nezt opponent. The experience, a good strategy and the concentration in following the chosen strategy in every moment proved to be useful, as they should. Real Madrid should keep this pace, because this is the right track to follow. Being careful and giving the best is the key to the success and Real Madrid has shown that many times in the past. The only thing remains hoping that the team will be determined like this in the upcoming challenges.
Hala Madrid!
