Real Madrid’s fine victory over Celtic in Glasgow was unfortunately followed by a bad news. The squad’s marksman was constrained to leave the pitch in the 30th minute and to leave his place to Eden Hazard due to an injury at the knee. Of course, his early substitution caused concern. Besides him, Militao also faced physical problems, apparently caused by overload. The news about their condition were expected to arrive as soon as Wednesday as the team returned to the capital at around 05:00, with Ancelotti giving his players the day off after a very satisfactory performance in Scotland.

Real Madrid also made an official statement about the Frenchman’s injury as follows: “Following tests carried out on our player Karim Benzema by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the semitendinosus tendon and a strain to the quadricep muscle in his right thigh. His recovery will continue to be assessed”. Meanwhile, no official statement was made on Militao since his injury and substitution were just a precaution since Ancelotti does not want to risk anything.

For the moment, all eyes are on Benzema, who went to Valdebebas on Wednesday to get tested and start his recovery as soon as possible. It is reported that the forward felt severe pain in his right leg during the game in Glasgow. The club doctor labelled it as discomfort, but didn't specify anything more than that.

It was later announced that the French striker has a semitendinous muscle injury and an overload in his quadriceps, and has some pain in the meniscus from that same leg, which will force him to sit out Real Madrid's next games against Mallorca, Leipzig, Atletico Madrid as well as the French National Team games at the end of the month.

Benzema eyes a return for the October 2 game against Osasuna. The medical team are advising caution as things stand, and Real Madrid are considering following the path that Gareth Bale walked and not make any details of Benzema's injury public - as is the player's right.

Regarding Militao, the player limped off with a muscular issue on the night as well, but Carlo Ancelotti was confident that his injury was nothing major. The Brazilian will face further tesing on Thursday, as the tests that he underwent this Wednesday came inconclusive despite the medical team being sure that there is nothing serious. Ancelotti plans to rest him in Real Madrid's next game against Mallorca, but depending on his evolution, the plan may change. The most likely scenario is that he will miss for one week and return next week for the Derby.
