The 2021-22 LaLiga campaign came to a beautiful ending with Karim Benzema as the top goalscorer. The madridista forward gets his hands on the Pichichi Trophy for the first time in his career, after bagging 27 goals this term. The Frenchman tops the list ahead of Aspas (18 goals), Vini Jr. (17) and De Tomás (17). This season, Benzema has enjoyed his most prolific campaign, hitting 44 goals across all competition and he's also the Champions League top scorer with 15.
Thanks to his incredible feats this year, Benzema became Real Madrid's second all-time top scorer, drawing level with Raúl. Both sit on 323 and behind only Cristiano Ronaldo (451). With one last match to go, Benzema still has a chance to go further than Raul without waiting for the next year to come.
Madridista Pichichis: With the latest addition of Benzema, some fourteen madridistas have now won the Pichichi Trophy: Olivares, Pahíño, Di Stéfano (5 times), Puskas (4), Amancio (2), Juanito, Hugo Sánchez (4), Butragueño, Zamorano, Raúl (2), Ronaldo, Van Nistelrooy, Cristiano Ronaldo (3) and Benzema.
Karim Benzema was also named Real Madrid's Mahou Cinco Estrellas player of the season 2021/22. The forward, who has had one of the best seasons of his career so far expressed his gratefulness as he presented the prize: "I'm very proud. It's been a really great season for me in terms of goals, assists and trophies and I feel really happy”.
“The key against Liverpool is to go out to win the game. It's a final against a very strong team but we are full of confidence because we're a really good side as well. We have to focus on our game and play as a unit, backed by our fans. We have loads of belief going into the game and we're going to show that out on the pitch", he added.
