After the match vsOsasuna two of the protagonists, Valverde and Vasquez, were interviewed by the media following their great performance. Valverde was 1/3 of the midfield trio but he tried to do more and often was seen making intrusions in the left or the right wing. On the other hand Vasquez played as a right back and excelled throughout the match, crowning the performance with a goal that closed the match at the end. Below are their words in front of the press:
Federico Valverde
Valverde, who reached a great milestone of 100 La Liga appearances with Real Madrid, reflected after the match: “I want to thank the fans who travelled and who always support us because that's really important for us. We're one step closer to our objective. It was a tough game and we struggled a bit in the first half, particularly when they hit back so soon, but we addressed our mistakes and produced a good performance”.
“We’re all part of the team and are all pulling in the same direction. It's important that whoever gets to play performs well and is in good shape and we've shown that we are. It's a bonus for the team. We've now got a few days to rest up and we knew that it was important to win tonight to head into the Champions League game full of motivation”, he added.
Benzema’s penalty misses: “Those things happen and he often ends up scoring them but today he didn't. He’s an important player for us and will score lots of goals between now and the end of the season”.
Lucas Vasquez
Lucas Vázquez fired home to round off Real Madrid’s win in Pamplona and the Galician reflected on the victory in the following terms: “This is a very tough place to come and they always make life difficult for us. We showed all of our discipline and competitiveness to try and win the game and managed to do so”.
He continued: “The two penalties would have given us a bit of breathing space, but they didn’t go our way tonight. We managed to get the win, which is important for our LaLiga season. We remain top and are keen to clinch the title as soon as possible. I'm happy to have scored, to have helped the team and to have played, which is the most special feeling”.
On Alaba: “We don't know how he's doing. It's too early, I imagine he’ll undergo tests tomorrow and we just hope it's nothing serious”.
