Real Madrid come away from the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez with all three points in the tough fight for LaLiga. Carlo Ancelotti's men remain unbeaten, having picked up 10 wins and a single draw in their 11 competitive games so far this season, with Eder Militão's early opener enough to seal victory this evening. The Brazilian delivered an imperious display and was involved in key moments at both ends for Madrid, who make the short trip home from Getafe sitting top of the pile.
Scoring right away made Madrid’s game easier and the team appeared more confident with the ball. Also they made quite a good work with the duels, playing more toughly and making the interventions more quickly. Madridistas dominated the game with more possession, 11 shots off target, 4 on target and 3 other blocked, but the results shows that they could’ve been more clinical. The team has been not accurate enough in front of the goal in the latest games and this is a detail to work more with. On the other hand a great signal came from the defense as the clean sheet has not been really common in this La Liga campaign for Los Blancos.
The game turned in the visitors' favour barely moments after getting underway. With three minutes on the clock, Luka Modrić's corner was beautifully headed home by the towering Militão. Following the opener, our team looked dominant and enjoyed several chances to extend their lead, although Getafe could have levelled 20 minutes later when Mayoral narrowly failed to get a touch on the ball as Fabrizio Angileri fired across goal.
Ancelotti’s men dominated the closing minutes of the first half and almost doubled their advantage in the 39th minute, when Fede Valverde’s measured cross was met with a thumping header from Rodrygo that drew a fine save from Soria. Just three minutes later, Luis Milla brought Vini Jr. down inside the box and Mateu Lahoz pointed to the spot, but the decision was overturned following a review by the VAR system, which showed that the ball had gone out of play in the build-up.
There was a greater tempo to proceedings after the restart and the chances came thick and fast. Soria was once again the hosts’ saviour on 48’, when he parried a Tchouameni effort from around the penalty spot and Angileri was on hand to block Modrić’s effort on the rebound. The home side’s riposte came a minute later, when Carles Aleñá’s strike from the edge of the area was destined to end up just inside the upright, but Lunin pulled off an impressive diving save.
With 57 minutes on the clock, Rodrygo had the ball in the back of the net, but the effort was chalked off after the Brazilian was ruled to have strayed offside by the VAR system. Real Madrid were bossing things and continued to pour forward. Valverde came close to doubling the visitors’ money on 77’ with a fierce effort from range that very nearly caught Soria out.
From that point on, Ancelotti’s troops remained firmly in control and were barely made to sweat. There was also some space for Nacho, Asensio and Mariano Diaz in the last 10 minutes as Madridistas chalked up a seventh league win of the campaign. It is incredibly important for the team to win without Benzema, especially with the Clasico coming next week.
