Casemiro has received the official Player of the Match award following Real Madrid's 2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the 2022 UEFA Super Cup in Helsinki. The midfielder was at his imperious best at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium and nearly capped a wonderful display with a second-half goal only for the bar to deny him. Speaking about Casemiro's performance, UEFA's Technical Observer panel said: "He balanced the game well when his team attacked. He also won all his tackles in very important areas to support his central defenders and assisted the first goal".

After winning and receiving the MVP the Brazilian was delighted to achieve another great success with Real Madrid. He expressed himself for the press: "This club lives off winning trophies so it's important to win this. Starting with a win is crucial and this is credit to what we did last year. We deserved the win as we played well and controlled the game".

“For me, winning this trophy is an absolute joy. Our team functions as a family and we, along with our manager, deserved to raise this trophy in the air once again. The match was very difficult, which makes us even happier that we were able to triumph in the end. This type of start to the season will provide a great incentive and motivation for new victories”.

He continued: "Real Madrid are always favourites and playing for this badge obliges you to give your all on the pitch. You win or lose in football, yet everything you give out on the pitch, is what we are able to give to ourselves and all the people who support us. This club lives off winning and trophies".

"We had quality players last year and new players have joined this year who're going to bring a lot to the team and help us. When new players come in, they bring lots of enthusiasm. Players who've been here a long time want to show and prove what they can do. That's crucial at this club and we're used to it".

On Benzema: "We didn't pay as much attention to Karim in previous years as we had a player who scored 50 goals, but Karim isn't different in terms of how he plays and the way he reads the game. He's the best number nine in the world and remains so now. In the last two years he's gone a step further. It's obvious Karim will win the Ballon d'Or".
