Marco Asensio and Thibaut Courtois spoke to the press after the important victory against Rayo Vallecano. They praised the team and noted that this was a great performance even why the team had to suffer at the end. The winger and the goalkeeper were both protagonists of this victory and have been two of the most important figures of the latest games.
Asensio said: “We put in a very decent performance. We conceded the goal towards the end which made life a bit more difficult but we closed the game out. We could have done it sooner but we created a lot of chances and we were sharp on the counter-attack. It was hugely important to win in front of our fans today. We're pleased with how we played, the win, and to be at the top again, which is where we belong. Now we've got a little break to rest and come back strong in two weeks' time”.
“Every team can put pressure on and hurt you, but we're taking the three points, which is the key thing. People are keen to see good football matches and today was one of those, even if we struggled a bit at times. We know we have the fans' support, which will be crucial from here until the end of the season".
"You have to make the most of your chances, work hard and try to play as well as possible on the pitch. Hopefully I'll be able to get more minutes. The coach asked me to be very mobile and to get involved a lot in the build-up and on the counter-attack", he concluded.
The Belgian goalkeeper said: "There's a good side but it's slightly bitter-sweet due to the end. We can't be 2-0 up and let that happen, we could have scored more and then they got one back. We controlled the game, but they almost equalised at the end. The three points were very important today. They pressed well but we didn't take our chances to score more goals".
He added: "We controlled the game quite well, but in the penultimate corner they almost got a goal and that's where we have to improve. The team proved that we know how to dig in, fight and that we're focused until the end. We must try to keep a clean sheet and kill the game off earlier. This is something we have to change because we have a lot of quality to get more goals".
